The multidisciplinary faculty of the Center for Health and Community has broad expertise in assessing health outcomes using measurement and analytic methods that are common in the social and behavioral sciences. The faculty share their expertise through didactic and consulting activities. Didactic activities include formal coursework, training, seminars, conferences, and continuing education. Consulting activities include program and research design, development and selection of survey tools, statistical consultation, and policy development. Specific areas of training and consulting include :

In 2001, Anita Stewart, PhD, and Anna Napoles-Springer, PhD, received $1.32 million for three years from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to conduct measurement studies and produce a survey instrument that is conceptually and psycho-metrically adequate to measure interpersonal processes (communication, respectfulness, and decision-making) that occur between patients and clinicians. The final instrument will be field tested to assure that final measures have similar measurement properties across three racial/ethnic groups (African American, Latino, and white).
